Winter Favorites 2017 // Skincare, Makeup, Books

Winter of 2017 has been a stressful but fun time. In December, we got our puppy, Macy! College application season really took off. Today I’m sharing all of my winter favorites from the season so far. I’ve found lots of new skincare products and read some amazing books. What have you been loving this winter?

Winter Favorites: Books

Holding Up The Universe

Author Jennifer Niven crafts an absolutely beautiful novel that will make you think and provoke deep self reflection. This book is emotional. It made me laugh and cry and dance and reconsider the boxes we put other people in. After reading All the Bright Places and falling in love with the characters, the plot, the words, I waited patiently for this book, and it did not disappoint. Niven’s voice shines through the text gorgeously, and this story of two teenagers with complex, ‘more than meets the eye’ issues captured my heart.

Wink Poppy Midnight

This novel by April Genevieve Tucholke is unlike any other story I’ve ever read. Centered around three very different teenagers, this novel tells the tale of lies, secrets, and the age-old tale of heroes and villains, revamped into an intoxicating, spell-binding story. To be quite honest, I am obsessed with this book. I received it as a Christmas present, and read it three times in January because it’s sheerly perfect. Plus, the descriptive nature of Tucholke’s writing is So. Good. It. Hurts! Totally up my alley. I’m into long, winding descriptions and the scenery is gorgeous and the character development is so completely on point.

Winter Favorites: Skincare & Makeup

I’m still absolutely obsessed with the Tarte Tartelette 2 In Bloom palette. I received this as a present for Christmas two years ago and am finally in need of a new one. I’ve used the champagne shade, Funny Girl, to the point where the entire center is packaging and the edges are barely hanging on. These shades are so wearable and blendable and buttery. I’m also a total  sucker for beautiful packaging, and this one takes the cake. Tarte slays.

Foundation has been difficult. I’m normally a very tan person (summer please get here soon) and so this winter I struggled with matching a shade to my skin when it was paler. Plus, the matte formulations of summer aren’t as comfortable when skin is drier in cold air. Finally, I found one I love. It’s not drying or oily, it’s not patchy, and it’s good coverage without being artificial! The L’Oreal True Match Lumi Makeup foundation is great and I’m going to rebuy this for spring and summer for sure.

With changing weather and changing seasons comes problematic skin and breakouts. The best thing for my skin is gentle skincare with natural ingredients. Recent skincare loves? this facewash from Origins. I love how this cleanses and balances my skin. You’ll moisturize the drier patches on skin and eliminate the greasy zones without drying out skin. Plus, it smells like mint, which I adore.

Another face wash love recently is the Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser. My mom actually received this in her FabFitFun box and let me borrow it. It’s phenomenal at removing makeup and leaves your skin feeling baby soft. Cold cream cleansers are gentler than soap, nourishing, and safe for sensitive (and acne-prone) skin.
