May has come and gone, and the sun is finally shining after what feels like an entire month of rain! How did June arrive so quickly?
This year as a whole has flown by. High school graduation is this upcoming Saturday, June 10th. College orientation is mid-June.
May has been a busy month. I’ve been spending as much time at my internship as possible because I’m so sad about having to leave my kids after loving them for the past few months! I also have been trying to organize a lot of things for the end of the school year and graduation.
Let’s chat about what I’ve really been loving this month. Time to dive in and check out my May Favorites for spring 2017.
may faves: makeup
Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with Tarte and their eyeshadows, specifically one shade in the Tartelette in Bloom Palette.
The color I’m obsessed with, called Funny Girl, is literally gone. I have used it down to the packaging. I didn’t want to repurchase the palette just for that one color, since it’s rather expensive.
When browsing Sephora and pondering whether to just suck it up and buy the palette, I came across the Buxom stand. For $4o, you can pick 6 full sized eyeshadows which tuck snugly into a palette and is completely customized by you! I got 3 dupes for the eyeshadow color I love and then a few awesome crease colors. You can choose from tons of colors, and the awkward palette issue of ‘some great colors, some awful colors’ is erased!
may faves: skin & body
This moisturizer is off the chain amazing. I have fallen head-over-heels for the Pond’s brand recently. It’s hydrating but doesn’t clog pores. My skin feels smooth, soft, and moisturized after I use it, and while some reviews seem to find the smell overwhelming, I love the fresh and clean scent. My mom and sister have fallen in love with this as well, and we have all purchased multiple to have as extras!
Who doesn’t love a good body butter, to be honest? The entire CocoShea line from Bath & Body Works has been an absolute dream the past month or so, and this product in particular is so extremely hydrating and softening. It smells amazing and I have already repurchased this product! Perfect for summer skin that is beach ready, radiant, and soft.
may faves: books
I’ve been interning with an occupational therapist during my senior year of high school. There is nothing more rewarding or inspiring than the kiddos at my internship. I didn’t have too much time to read during May, but I did manage to spread out my time and read one awesome book relating to my internship!
Life, Animated is a heartwarming story of a family’s resilience and perseverance . Giving readers an inside look into a household where autism exists, Ron Suskind writes about his son Owen, who was diagnosed with autism around age 3. Owen’s family realizes that his affinity for Disney movies is the key to unlocking his personality, communication and language skills, and inner world.
Through every struggle, celebration, victory, and setback, I cried, laughed, and learned a ton. If you know nothing or everything about autism, you should pick up this book and give it a read.
If you’re interested in the book, there’s also a movie made! I plan on watching this as soon as graduation season is over and my free time increases.
may life updates
May went ridiculously quickly. Starting off with my eighteenth birthday, which included a fancy dinner down at the Inner Harbor, I rapidly began to feel excited for all of the changes and things to come in the next chapter of my life. Read about my birthday experience and reflections here!
I finished up my final dual enrollment class at the community college near me. I just received my official transcript in the mail, which I’ll give to my college at orientation next week to get my credits applied!
My family attended a senior awards ceremony for the National Honor Society at my school, where I got a medal to wear at graduation and learned that I did the most hours this year.
It rained most of the month, which makes me appreciate sunshine and warmth even more.
We visited the beach a couple times. I appreciated many sunrises and took tons of photos.
The after-school mentorship program I run finished out strongly, with awards ceremonies and parties for over 100 elementary school students. Even though I was exhausted, I learned many lessons from the kids and families, and gained valuable leadership experience I wouldn’t trade for anything.
I developed a strong love for Dunkin’ Donuts. My order? Medium caramel iced coffee with cream and sugar. Drank lots of this during May.
My mom and I found a produce shop where we picked up veggies, fruits, and baked goods. We looked at some gorgeous flowers, too, which you can peek at over on my Instagram!
My puppy had surgery but recovered nicely, and is now back to her crazy, flying-monkey self.
I had a lot of nice lunches and conversations with those I love.
I got one step closer to graduation, to summer, to college.
Thanks for reading!
