Happy Friday! I’ve decided to start a semi-weekly series on the blog (aptly entitled Happy Friday). I want to utilize this post as a little recap of my week, life updates, and of course, share the things and posts I’ve been loving! This week, I’m sharing some insight into my new semester, the TV shows, movies, and books I’ve been loving, and some of my favorite blog posts of the past week. Let me know in the comments section something good that has happened to you this week! Let’s get started.
This past week, starting Tuesday, was my first week of second semester of freshman year. (that’s a mouthful!). So far I am in love with all of my classes. I’m currently taking Social Psychology, Introduction to Literary Studies (English), Italian, Origins of the West, and Introduction to Philosophy. All of my professors are really lovely, smart, and genuine people who I am excited to learn from. I have been enjoying the content of the courses so far, and I’m really excited and think I’ll be successful this semester!
I’ve been re-watching The Vampire Diaries on Netflix. While I love the show, I forgot how frustrating literally every character is. I’m reluctantly going to admit I’ve been enjoying The Bachelor, too. There is something so rewarding about sinking into bad reality TV, and I’m a total sucker for it. Plus, Grey’s Anatomy restarted this week and I was so thrilled with the premier. The Fosters also is capturing my heart yet again-such an amazing show.
The schedule I’ve built this semester is lovely. I can sleep in if I need to on most days, but I also can decide to get an early start to my day. The best morning so far was one where I got up relatively early and headed to the dining hall, settling into a comfy booth in a rare quiet moment with my breakfast, writing and answering emails before getting into the more structured part of my day.
Lindsay’s (my younger sister) birthday was this Wednesday, the 24th! I’ve spent the week excitedly planning little things here and there. I’m so proud of her and all of her accomplishments, so naturally I’m ready to celebrate her special day. My best friend Dustin and I surprised her by showing up at her birthday dinner, and it was so much fun! There’s more surprises to come 😉
I finished reading an amazing book on Friday: Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read; so much so, when I finished it, I immediately wanted to start it over at the beginning again. The characters were so vivid, the storyline and conflict so alive. There’s a full review up on the blog here! There are moments of such poignant, powerful, elegant writing and I found myself deep within the story. Somehow, this book blends being such an escape from everyday life while being relatable and heartbreakingly real. I highly, highly recommend this book if you’re looking for something to read.
Movie wise, this month I’ve been to the movies a few times. I saw The Greatest Showman twice, and would go see it again in a heartbeat. So uplifting and inspiring, this movie tells the story of P.T. Barnum and his circus. With notes of family, overcoming adversity, and discovering what really matters, I can’t get enough (plus, the soundtrack is SO GOOD). My close friend Dustin came to stay with my family before winter break ended and we saw Pitch Perfect 3-I was so impressed. Initially I was worried about this one falling short, but I absolutely loved it! Such feel-good movies.
seven: social media
I’ve finally come around to using Twitter. When I was younger, I never understood the value or the appeal of the platform. Once I started using it more recently, cultivating a news feed that I actually, honestly love, I found myself really enjoying it! You can follow me on Twitter here. I’ve also been posting some majorly cute photos on Instagram-winter break meant taking 2093923 pictures of my puppies!
